About Skins, or should i say models with skins?
With Skin, i refer to a Counter-Strike Source or Day of Defeat Source player model which can be used on a server. For example, there are plenty of skins and models on FPSBANANA but majority of those cannot be used on a server. You can use them yourself but others will not see the stuff that you have on your computer. The models/skins which are here on this website, are 100% working and server admins can put them up to their own servers for admins use, private use or public use. It's up to them really. The skins which are installed on the server itself, can be seen by everyone and this is why it's nice to have them on a server to spice up the gaming experience. These skins here are completely free. If you paid from these, you have been ripped off!
Advantages, disadvantages
With custom models, your server will look more different than the mass of servers out there running just stock content which game itself provides. Sometimes it's nice to have ADMIN written on
your clothes while you play (to get admirable looks and to scare idiots away) or different player skins for the masses. While skins are wanted & admired, they are also hated at the same time. For the haters, i would just say:
1. You can turn custom skins off with cvar cl_minmodels 1 and you see only stock Valve models instead.
2. You can also filter off any custom content with cvar cl_downloadfilter none so you dont need to even download them.
3. Go play elsewhere, there are lots of servers without any skins or other custom content. Many dust2 only servers out there.
